The church was formed by people from mainly
Kliptown and Albertinsville and were congregants in the parishes of St
Peter and St Paul in kliptown.
In 1956, it was suggested that a place be
found where services could be
conducted preferably in Moletsane or Tladi. A committee was formed in 1956
under the leadership of Father Christian Molefe to undertake the preparations
of finding a suitable location to conduct services.
The committee consisted of: Father
Christian Molefe,
Mr Mathikge, Mr Ramphore, Mr
Manyama, Mr Moerane,
Mr Ngakane, Mr Ramela, Mrs Matheatau, Mrs Ramela
(all from Moletsane), Mr Matau from Dube, Mr mongale from CWJ and Mrs Silika from Senaone.
The first step
In a meeting, Mr Ramela of No. 6 Moletsane was asked to make his house available for church services. He agreed and services were held from November 1957 up until August 1958. The congregation grew and a decision was made to hold further services at Tlholohelo Lower Primary school where a classroom was secured and used. The principal was Mrs Wessie who was very cooperative and a pleasure to work with. At the end of November 1959, it was time to move in to our new built church as it was ready for occupation in December after being blessed and consecrated by Bishop Ambrose Reeves.
Getting Started
The time came where a suitable name for
the church was required. Bishop Ambrose called a meeting between Father
Christian Molefe, Father Betrams Moloi and Mrs Maggie Ramela to suggest a
suitable name for the church and they all agreed on the name “Modisa o Molemo" (The Good Shepherd).
Rev Christian Molefe was in charge and was
assisted by Father Moiloa
